Guillermo del Toro is in the house
Received this boxset from a seller off eBay today. The envelope it came in was shabby and with 0,23€, out of the 4€ I gave him, used, it makes me wonder where the other 3,77 went?
Anyway, I cannot wait to watch these movies, they look so freaking awesome and I’m a huge fan of del Toro’s work. I have Pan’s Labyrinth on BD already (German SteelBook) but it lacked subtitles or audios tracks I understand, so now I’m blessed with a Spanish DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on each movie along with French subs.
El Laberinto de Fauno and El Orfanato, here I come!

101 BDs now.
New James Bond FutureShop Exclusives canceled (?)
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on March 25th, 2009

It seems as though the once Amazon.com Exclusive, turned both that (for the US) and a FutureShop Exclusive (for Canada), has come back to its original exclusivity. It seems like the release (slated for today) in stores of the three new James Bond SteelBooks just never took place in Canada. I’ve read reports that the clerks in stores didn’t have them listed in their computers, that there were no adverts for them in stores and most relevant of this theory is that they were taken off the FutureShop website a few hours ago and replaced with simple Amaray cased versions.
One can only speculate so long, but it’s safe to say they’ve either been delayed, postponed, canceled or even better, never were meant to be.
Whatever the case may be, I decided to simply order them from Amazon.com and just go for those instead.

The Host SteelBook (France)
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on March 24th, 2009

Ah the wonders of eBay. Whilst some hate it for its insecurity, I wander around lurking for deals that no one else would be tempted by. Bite the bullet and you can sometimes obtain things for a lot less than in stores. I received Gwoemul (The Host) this morning, a Korean monster movie which I’ve yet to see. Anyway, here’s a picture:

I think this will probably be my last purchase from the “old” TF1 releases that came out in last October. The rest are just French movies I have no real interest in seeing.
We’re back

Hey there everyone,
I must have gone over my limit (= success of the blog?) so we were cut off for a couple of days. Might also have been a server outage, who knows?
Anyway, I thought I’d update you since my last post Thursday. It feels like so much has happened since then that I don’t even know where to start. After I left it, I went out and scored some of the other TF1 SteelBooks released that day, so here’s a group shot:

After further research, I found out that The Shawshank Redemption was definitely not a SteelBook (which saddens me very much as out of the 11 releases that day, it was the one I was looking forward to the most to own in a nice Steel package), just an amaray case with a slipcover. Other than that, it seems that neither Tom Yung Goong and Diarios de Motocicleta got a release at all, be it in a SteelBook or in a simple Blu-ray. Probably postponed or canceled.
What to add? Oh I also decided to grab a few movies I didn’t have yet such as Match Point and Scoop, the latter I traded and need to reacquire. I should be getting the six first James Bond Steels from Canada soon enough.
Do you think I should start posting tests?
The only problem is that I’m not yet equipped with a HD audio system. I’m limited to my old analogic 5.1 system, albeit very good for an 11-year-old ensemble, I still need to be fully upgraded to truly appreciate what HD Audio has to offer.
I’d also like to add that I received the Limited “Internet in a Box” Edition of The IT Crowd, Series 1-3 and it looks grand!

I’m sure there’s more to say but I’ll just post something new in case.
I got the Blus

Today is an important day for SteelBook collectors as it marks the release of eleven (yes, 11) new Blu-ray SteelBooks by TF1 Vidéo… or so I thought.
I went to one of my favourite stores (Fnac) to check out the releases. To my disappointment, they had only received 5 out all of the releases. My deceit got taken to a higher level when I saw that one of my top movies of all time, The Shawshank Redemption, slated for a release today, only got the amaray case treatment… especially with such a dull cover:

I then decided to get some of the other releases instead, and grabbed The Fountain and Ladder 49:

Here are the pictures I took instore for the other releases they had received (the others should arrive tomorrow):

Crank

Immortel (ad vitam)

I had some rebates from previous purchases so I decided to grab yet another 4 movies from their “4 for 50€” sale: Cloverfield, The Day After Tomorrow, Le Pacte des Loups and Starship Troopers. And another set I’ve had my eyes on for a while which contains both The X-Files movies in a Special Fnac Edition set.
I Am Legend – Ultimate Collector’s Edition (USA)
I didn’t think it would be this beautiful but it really is. The Ultimate Collector’s Edition of I Am Legend has arrived. ![]()
Sadly, due to pressure during transit, a corner of the pack got ripped, bleh. I didn’t outsource myself to acquire it so I guess it’s a good deal.
Here’s a pic of the beast:

I Am Legend SteelBook – FutureShop Exclusive (Canada) & Next SteelBook (France)
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on March 16th, 2009

Here it is, the final piece of the four-legged FutureShop Monster: the I Am Legend SteelBook.
Finally managed to trade a copy to a guy in Canada and all I can say is: w00t!
It looks fantastic and I’ll be opening it soon (can’t have that tear on the front for ever).

I forgot to mention that I’ve also decided to add Next to my collection. The movie wasn’t that great and I thought Nicolas Cage was totally unconvincing in this role (I actually liked Ghost Rider more than this flick!). So it’ll probably stay sealed and I’ll keep it for later trades. But for now, it stays up against the others, all snug. ^^

“The IT Crowd: Series 1-3 Box Set – Limited Internet in a Box” out tomorrow
This is quite an odd post. I usually don’t talk about DVDs, but nobody can deny that they’re still part of the modern world’s media platforms.
The IT Crowd is simply of the most ingenious British TV shows I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing (along with Father Ted). Sadly, unless Channel4 commission a new series to be produced, then this will be the last of The IT Crowd, after three short series of a mere 6 episodes each. But how intense were those episodes!
So, tomorrow, we’ll have the pleasure of seeing the release of the entire show on DVD in a “Limited Internet in a Box” edition. To see where it comes from, watch this YouTube video.
I, for one, will be ordering this boxset as of tomorrow. I can’t wait to see Roy, Moss and Jen again.

Twilight SteelBook in Spain?
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on March 15th, 2009

We’ve recently had a chatter over at Blu-ray.com concerning the upcoming release of the Twilight Blu-ray in Spain. It’s being speculated that it should come out in a SteelBook packaging, given the fact it’s being advertised as packaged in an “Estuche metálico”. It could also simply be a MetalPak. No one can say for sure yet.
Here’s a picture (badly PhotoShopped) of the rumoured SteelBook, slated for an April 22nd release:

Upcoming German Blu-ray SteelBooks
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on March 13th, 2009

I just thought I would do a little round up on the four upcoming Blu-ray SteelBooks that MediaMarkt are going to release through their chain of stores in Germany.
First, we have Body of Lies coming out on March 20th (confirmed). This title, however, is not a MediaMarkt exclusive, but a nationwide release, so available on Amazon.de.
Then we might have Max Payne coming out the same day (March 20th), exclusive to MediaMarkt.
On April 9th, MediaMarkt will be releasing Death Race.
Finally, I’ve had word from American Baron that Da Vinci Code will also be getting a SteelBook release on May 7th through MediaMarkt only.
Have a good evening folks.
