Some Special FNAC Editions again
I stopped by FNAC and picked up two movies that, for once, are worth putting the cash down for. They both came in their own special packaging specific to FNAC stores. A couple of pictures:

Slumdog Millionaire
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2-Disc Edition)
The Slumdog Millionaire edition comes packaged in a large rectangular horizontal book which opens on two pages that each have a disc. The extra here is a Bonus DVD with an exclusive documentary of Danny Boyle going back to India to the places where he shot the film.
Regarding Benjamin Button, it comes in a slick slipcover and a 52-page booklet with pictures and production notes.
Jackie Brown [France]
Posted by admin in Blu-ray, SteelBooks on August 8th, 2009

As I told you a couple of days ago, Jackie Brown was being released on Blu-ray through TF1 Vidéo on August 6th in a SteelBook case, which you can see right under these words.
It includes a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 English track (with forced French subtitles, to TF1’s accustomedness) framed in a 1.85:1 MPEG4/AVC video for a length of 2 hours and 28 minutes.
This is yet another addition to the “Tarantino Collection” I’m building. With the two Kill Bill Vols., “Death Proof”, “Pulp Fiction” and the Petrol Can of “Reservoir Dogs”, this means I have all the complete movies Tarantino made after 1990, besides his first movie “My Best Friend’s Birthday” and other segments included in films like “Four Rooms” or “Grindhouse”, although I do have “Sin City” as well.

Devil May Cry 4 (Collector’s Edition) [UK]

Got this today from an eBay seller.
Sadly, some parts in the case were missing, like the hinge to close the SteelBook properly or the booklet holder. Both which are irreplaceable given its status. Anyway, it’s still sexy, have a look:

In other news, I’m almost finished updating the LightBox pictures throughout the website.
Knowing and Mirror’s Edge
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on August 5th, 2009
Today marked the arrival of Nicolas Cage and Faith into the SteelBook family.
The Australian import of Knowing is worth mentioning. Not only does it have some beautiful artwork, an embossed writing, but it comes with a cardboad slipcover which allows the owned to have a rating’s logo-free front cover if the person chooses to slip it off. Already done on Transporter 3 and I hope to see it more often in countries with this bad habit (like the UK or Denmark).
It has both a DTS-HD and a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, out of which I’m taking the DTS-HD Master Audio track will be the best. Icon really outdid themselves for this good movie.
Crazy story surrounding getting Mirror’s Edge, but given its rarity, I decided to just keep it, even if it’s with a couple of minor defects. Still a very good looking piece.

Knowing (Limited Edition)
New French SteelBooks
Posted by admin in Blu-ray, SteelBooks on August 2nd, 2009

I thought you’d like to see the next upcoming Blu-ray Steels I’ve found out about tonight.
- Jackie Brown, which comes out on August 6th. Yes! Another Tarantino movie out in the SteelBook format. It’ll sit quite nicely beside the two Kill Bill Volumes as well as Pulp Fiction.

- Espion(s), due August 20th. Another French movie release by TF1. This one I’ve heard of but never got around to watching, I might pick it up, we’ll see.

And finally, a higher resolution picture of the Push SteelBook, still to be released on September 9th:

EDIT: Finally a release for Der Untergang? Remember, the SteelBook had been announced (even showing a SteelBook artwork all done for) but then canceled. This might be our chance to finally see this amazing movie on Blu-ray in a class SteelBook.
Amazon.fr seem to have it up for sale immediately but with a 11/12-day wait before supplies, whereas FNAC.com state a September 23rd release, but with no artwork to confirm it’ll be a SteelBook.

Major picture update in progress
As some of you might have noticed, I’ve been updating the pictures on the website, starting with the PS3 SteelBooks using these new stands I got and the white wall I freshly painted a few days ago.
I’ll be giving every single SteelBook this treatment. I hope to make the pages more appealing to the eye and make for better referencing.
I understood that the huge scans might not help anyone that much and took ages to load. Added to that the fact that they ate up a lot of bandwith for basically nothing.
I’ve also started using LightBox as a way to show the pictures as pop ups instead of opening a new page.
So bear with me as I go through the process of updating each SteelBook.
Some feedback would be highly appreciated.

Watchmen (Director’s Cut) [Canada - FutureShop Exclusive]

It finally came today from a good friend up in the Great White North, along with an awesome FutureShop Exclusive Journal to write down nasty thoughts on how the world will end.

Watchmen (Director’s Cut)
New PS3 SteelBooks

I told you I’d be getting a few in the coming days, well here are the two first:

Colin McRae DiRT [Germany] / Prince of Persia (GAME Exclusive) [UK]
Straight from the Canucks
My brother got me a couple of things off iNetVideo for my birthday, a Canadian online retailer.

Blade Runner (Limited Edition Gift Set) [HD-DVD]
From Dusk Till Dawn / Air Force One
The last movie I asked for as it cost something like US$3 or something, so I thought I might as well.
The Blade Runner set is amazingly beautiful and a great bargain ($25), even though, I know, it’s a HD-DVD set. But I reckon the transfer’s just as good, and with 5 different cuts of the movie along with a Dolby TrueHD track on the Final Cut, I won’t be complaining!
