Twilight, X-Men… Superhero day?
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on April 30th, 2009

In a recent trade made with a Portuguese friend over at Blu-ray.com, I managed to grab a copy of the cool as Spanish Twilight SteelBook, I don’t care what people think, I cannot wait to watch it.

Twilight (2-Disc Special Edition)

In other news, I also decided to go for the Special Fnac Edition of the Ultimate Edition of the X-Men Trilogy. Too bad it only has DTS-HR tracks for the movies. Oh well, let’s hope the video quality holds up.

X-Men (2000) / X2 (2003) / X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army SteelBook [France]

Just got back from FNAC for my group buy of the new Hellboy II SteelBook released today. Here’s a picture of the lot:

Once again, I’ve managed to score an amazing trade with a great German friend of mine. Without further ado, here are the 4 beasts:

Death Race (Extended Version) / Body of Lies (Special Edition)
El Orfanato / Wanted

Just got this in. Sexy looking SteelBook.
Too bad there’s a little dent in the lower right corner, but it seems to be on every single copy so…

Transporter 3 in Aussie
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on April 22nd, 2009
Seems like Australia will be getting the SteelBook of Transporter 3 as well! That’s the third version we’re going to see of this movie.
Slated for June 10th 2009 (just after the German release).
Artwork (TBC):

The Lord of the Rings – Trilogy SteelBooks out in November!
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on April 19th, 2009

Big announcement today! The Lord of the Rings trilogy is coming to Blu-ray soon in the US. Sadly for us in Europe, it seems we’ll only be getting them towards the end of the year. Amazon.de have announced their Exclusive SteelBook editions for November 27th.
It also seems like it’ll only be the Theatrical cuts of the movies. Better than nothing, right?
Without further ado, here are the covers with their pre-order links (EDIT: Amazon.de pages have been removed, probably for an update):

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring / Amazon.de

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers / Amazon.de

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King / Amazon.de
Italian Trifecta

They weren’t kidding when they said Priority Shipping with FedEx. I understood the 13€ worth when I came back today to see I had been delivered. Not something to get excited about except for the mere fact that it was sent the day before! I know, riiight?
Anyway, here’s the two Italian beauties I was lacking:

The Interpreter / Memoirs of a Geisha
The Day the Earth Stood Still – MediaMarkt Exclusive SteelBook
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on April 14th, 2009

EDIT: To take with a grain of salt, these covers are actually a photoshop job by DEMON23 and there is no evidence of such a release.
Okay so here’s the second post for today with an announcement of a new SteelBook coming (I think) on May 8th: The Day the Earth Stood Still, the 2008 remake with Keanu Reeves. Yes another MediaMarkt Exclusive.
Here’s the cover(s) (Thanks to DEMON23) – I have a theory that it’s either going to be two covers OR that it’ll be a lenticular cover:

Good deal on Italian SteelBooks

If you’re looking to get the three Italian Blu-ray SteelBooks available, you should head to dvd.it, they’re all 19.99€ a piece:
The Interpreter:

Memoirs of a Geisha (Memorie di una Geisha):

Shoot ‘Em Up Limited Edition (it doesn’t come up as SteelBook but in the description it says “Edizione da collezione, in elegante cofanetto metallico steelbook, a tiratura limitata”):

More info on Spanish Twilight SteelBook
Posted by admin in SteelBooks on April 11th, 2009
An official press release by Aurum (the movie’s distributor in Spain) seems to confirm Twilight (Crepúsculo in Spanish) will be a SteelBook, and the first in Spain at that.
Besides that, here are the front and back covers (click on the thumbs for higher resolution):

Seems to be locked to Region B.

I also took advantage of the last day of the get 4 Blu-rays for 50€ at my usual Fnac store. I had a 30€ voucher from previous purchases which brought it down to 20€ for the 4 BDs. That’s 5 bucks a movie! Now if that isn’t sexy, I don’t know what it is.
I chose these: Be Kind Rewind (I lack comedies in my Blus); Black Hawk Down (never seen this Ridley Scott movie, I’ve heard it’s really good); Casablanca (a classic I got for my mother who’s a fan) and No Country For Old Men (which I’ve heard was amazing).
